A modular natural-food kiosk built on a shipping container
At the core of the pickup station is a container-based kiosk where architecture plays a central role. The goal is not just a technically functional structure but a space that conveys an experience of nature and creates a strong, recognizable identity. The warm wooden interior, adjustable shelving modules, and cold appliances are designed drawing on northern nature and the Finnish environment.
Architectural concept: Design Lead, Elli KänsäläCold chain and traceability built in
Every pickup station is built around two things: products stay at the right temperature, and their origin can always be verified.
An unbroken cold chain
Products move from the producer straight into the station's cold zone and stay at the right temperature until pickup. Temperature is monitored continuously with BLE sensors.
Traceability to origin
See where your food comes from: who produced or caught it, where, and when. Fish is traceable to the fisher, catch date, and catch area, and food-safety records are created automatically.
Pickup 24/7 in Oulu
Order online and pick up with your own code whenever it suits you. The first stations open in the Oulu region.
An EU co-funded project
The pickup station network is piloted as part of the Lahikalaa.fi project, which opens a digital marketplace for Bothnian Bay professional fishers and a cold pickup network for fresh and frozen fish in the Oulu region. The fisher lists the catch online, and the customer picks up the fish from a refrigerated pickup station 24/7.
The project is funded by the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) through the Bothnian Bay Coast Fisheries Leader group.
